you better shape up…

In the summer I would definitely have no qualms about wearing this outside; even though it’s quite sexy in a sort of ramshackle way, I’m hardly showing any skin, and you could easily swap the hold-ups for regular tights or socks without losing the mood of the outfit. Red lipstick gives it the something extra, too- what I’m wearing here is a great matte one from Chanel called Pirate. When I was a kid I mostly bought make-up because I liked the name (Illamasqua, Nars and Urban Decay tend to come up with the best titles out there) and I still think there must be some kind of psychological difference between wearing a lipstick you know is called ‘Pirate’ versus wearing one that you know is called ‘First Blush’ or something equally nauseating. I once bought an electric blue liquid-eyeliner (by Urban Decay) that didn’t suit me, just because it was called ‘Speed’, and that concept really appealed to my 13-year-old skateboarder self. It’s a pity ad-men know about this. Haha.

Anyway, I hope you’re all having an awesome week, and thank you so much to everyone who commented on my scrapbook, it was really lovely of you and made me a very happy bunny indeed.

These are the first few pages of my new scrapbook. At the moment I’m very attracted to bright, neon colours and the strange, asymmetrical shapes found in things like cartoons, Manga, and pop art. I’m loving really delicate Oriental prints too, and have been putting it all together into collages that are starting to look a bit Japanese, and very, very girly. Sort of like they’ve been pasted by Nyan Cat. If you don’t know who that is, click the link (preferably when you’re stoned) and be mesmerised.
I want to do something large-scale soon, on canvas, and this scrapbook is just my practise space, for collecting ideas that I might use. What do you think? Hope you all had an awesome weekend!

I’ll be going to Secret Garden Party for the first time ever this summer, and I’m SO EXCITED! This is the kind of thing I plan on wearing while I listen to loads of bands, drink cocktails in the sun, and play with my friends on the grass *sighs wistfully*. The footwear, admittedly, is a little bit ambitious, and I know I’ll probably end up wearing Converse rather than polka-dot wedges, but for these photos they’ll do just fine! I hardly ever wear heels outside, as I’m already 5’10 in bare feet (people tend to stare a little bit when a 6’2 Dementor in a playsuit that shows a little bit of her butt cheeks strolls along holding a glass of wine and a cigarette) and I can’t walk in them for very long. I can do a cool model-strut for about 100 yards, and then I have to be taken home.

I have no idea what the line-up is going to be yet (why does Secret Garden Party have to be so damn…secretive?) but I really want to show you some Anna Calvi, and it does go quite well with the mood of this outfit, I think. Do listen, and let me know what you think of her…

I’ve been trying to switch some things around in my room to make it more spring-like, and lighter. When I took these photos the sun was really shining, and even though it’s still cold I do feel like winter, as a season, is over, and it’s time to get the bunny ears out. Sometimes I just wear them around the house. They do put me in a good mood, but I should warn anyone thinking of getting some that trying to bitchface is really difficult when you’re wearing velveteen rabbit ears. No one takes you seriously. In fact I’d go so far as to say that most people will think it’s silly, so if you have one of those phobias about people pointing and staring and laughing, I wouldn’t recommend it. For the people who have a secret masochistic fantasy about people pointing and staring and laughing…do it. It works.

The locket in the first picture is something that I’m really excited about. My Mum has had it for years and has finally given it to me! I love it so much, and I can’t wait to start wearing it out (I’m still a bit scared of losing it, so I just keep taking pictures of it instead) and finding something tiny to keep inside it! My Mum used to keep things like my baby teeth or hair in it, so it might stay empty for a while yet *gulp*

Oh, and the camera on my bedside table is an old EOS 5000. That takes actual film. FILM. From a time before digital, in a land of shadows and tears, where the little boys and girls cried themselves to sleep because they couldn’t delete their shit photos and try again.

I thought it was about time I featured my favourite dress, seeing as I’m supposed to be blogging about clothes and all that jazz. I love it because of the stunning Oriental floral print on it, and because it fits me better than anything else in my wardrobe- which is pretty lucky considering it’s vintage. The label says it’s from H&M, but I found it in a charity shop for £5 *smugface*. The top half fits sort of like a corset, which I like, and the skirt is long enough to not have to worry about it blowing up in the summer breeze. There’s nothing tomboyish about this dress. I might as well walk around with a big sign saying ‘Me Girl You Treat Me Like Lady Please’. Which is sort of daring, in a way.

This is what I would wear to watch The Sexiest Man (Gazaffelstein) alive do his thing at a festival, if I were lucky enough to go one day…I don’t think I could get away with this at Rex Club. The doorman would be like ‘hey, girl, your dress is see-through’ and I’d be like ‘I know. I’m in love with the DJ. What of it?’ and then he’d totally throw my arse out and I’d have to sneak back in with some crazy drug-dealers that I’d bribed with lollipops and chewing gum. But at a festival it would be fine! I’d be practically invisible next to the girls wearing carnival beads and a g-string. Look, I’ve even got warm socks on.

For those of you who saw my Little Red Riding Hood post (click here if you didn’t) my progression onto Sleeping Beauty will seem totally natural. I was thinking of doing The Princess and the Pea, but I’m lazy and crap at posing, and I’d had a bit of a long day and wasn’t in the mood to push mattresses up the stairs, so I thought, hey man, screw this, I’m gonna go take a nap in my crown and there’s nothing you can do to stop me. I’m just badass like that.

What do y’all think of my creepy shrine?

This is genuinely just a natural-magic-thing, and not a let’s-make-a-teenage-blood-pact-for-serious thing. And I’m definitely NOT  a cult member, so you can keep reading, safe in the knowledge that I’m not going to burst into a crazy rant about how Odin is going to shower vengeance down on us all and that you need to send me a cheque in the mail right away if you want to be saved when the rapture comes. Instead I’ll just talk about how much I LOVE Russian dolls, Tarot cards and candles. So here goes- I love them. I think they’re good.

Yes, I still use a Walkman sometimes. It’s fun. And my IPod always seems to be on the fritz, so I like to have a backup. I don’t carry it around; but sometimes it’s handy late at night if I want to listen to music and more sophisticated technology has failed me. It also satisfies my hipster snobbery, and gives me a sense of superiority over those morons who queue up for the latest IPhone and then make a big thing of talking really LOUDLY  on it while walking around FootLocker, getting in everyone’s way and not hearing you when you say ‘excuse me’ because they’re too busy laughing their arse off with some guy called Dave The Rave, who I’m sure is somewhere in another FootLocker doing exactly the same thing, pissing off different people. Probably people who’ll also blog about it later. Wow. Shit just got surreal.

Anyway, none of the stuff in these pictures is new, so I won’t bother putting credits, but I would like to mention that the puppet is a childhood toy that I’ve had since I can remember, and people always say it looks like me. That’s probably a bit creepy from one point of view, but I quite like that. What do you think?

Hope you’re all having a beautiful week.

I was born to endure this kind of weather

I like flowers. Em hum. I can’t wait for everything to start growing again and to be warm enough to walk through the grass and pick daisies; of course it won’t be that warm in South Wales until at least late March, so I have to stick to collecting flower-printed things instead, and just try to read a lot and not kill myself. I never really thought of myself as being a girly-girl at all, but I’m starting to reconsider. I do spend a lot of time wearing dirty jeans (how long is it acceptable to go without washing your jeans? Open question) and playing computer games, but parts of my bedroom are starting to look like they were decorated by the Powerpuff Girls on acid. Ditto my wardrobe. I have more dresses than I do t-shirts, or, to be honest, any other item. Some women collect shoes or bags, but to me it’s always been about the dress. The swishier, the better. And maybe flower-printed too. With a unicorn on the front. A pink unicorn. A pink unicorn wearing a princess crown, crapping roses. Okay, maybe I have a problem.

Also, I want to talk to you all about Pinterest. Lately I’ve gotten a bit bored with my feed, and there’s probably only about six or seven people who’s pins I actually use, which is a shame because I’d like to make more mood-boards and get more creative with it; but to do that I need fresh inspiration! I’m going to be putting all my blog photos on there from now on too, and I’d love to find some of my blogger friends on there, so if any of you feel the same, come and follow me, and I’ll follow you right back! Today I thought I would dress up like Little Red Riding Hood.  Just because I can. I found this amazing red skirt that’s covered in little yellow and blue speckles (I’m going to call it my Jackson Pollock skirt *nerd*) and I can’t stop wearing it! I love this shape so much. I can’t believe that I never even wore skirts until about three months ago; what was I thinking? For some reason I always thought they didn’t suit me. Anyway, for this incarnation I imagined I was out in the meadows, picking flowers, blissfully unaware that I’m being hunted by a blood-thirsty wolf from deep within my own psyche. Also, as you can see, I’m now a brunette! This is due to one seriously terrible hairdresser, and not my choice at all; I gave her a picture of Amanda Seyfried and she turned me into the bad Olivia from Fringe. I’ll probably change it back soon; I don’t recognise myself.

I also want to talk to you all about The Totally Awesome Blog Hop. I heard about it on The Little Owl, an amazing blog written by Sabrina Brucker, a New Yorker that I’ve been following ever since she gave me one of my first comments back in December. The Totally Awesome Blog Hop is the brain-child of her and three other bloggers who are acting as hostesses for a giant link-fest of like-minded bloggers across the world. I’ve only been a member for a couple of days and have already found a whole bunch of cool new blogs to follow and comment on! It only takes five minutes to sign up and it really does help boost traffic, so I thought I’d spread the word! You can join in by clicking the button in my sidebar, or by going to The Little Owl.

One last word about the bag I’m wearing; it was handmade for me by a very talented craftsman in The New Forest, England called Tibor who designs the coolest, most magical satchels around. You can even design the thing yourself, choosing everything from the leather to the clasp to the stitching, and he’ll make it up for you from scratch. Check out his website here!

Hope you all had an awesome weekend!
